Hope’s Female Hair Transplant Results
Patient Details
Hope Murphy of Coventry, Rhode Island came to Leonard Hair Transplant Associates after experiencing female hair loss that had become increasingly difficult to ignore. Thinning hair was especially noticeable when she parted her hair or when the wind exposed areas of reduced density, and she wanted to know whether hair restoration could give her greater coverage using her own naturally growing hair.
“I wanted my hair back so that I wouldn’t feel so self-conscious when I parted my hair, or when the wind blew the hair away,” Hope said. “It wouldn’t look like I had bald spots.”
Hope’s story is an important reminder that hair loss is not exclusively a men’s issue. Women can experience several different types and patterns of hair loss, and the appropriate treatment depends on the cause of the loss, the amount of existing hair and, when surgery is being considered, whether there is sufficient permanent donor hair available for transplantation.
Why Hope Chose Hair Transplant Surgery
After her hair loss was evaluated, Hope was determined to be a candidate for hair transplant surgery. Her procedure was performed at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates in Rhode Island in 2010 using the surgical approach available to her at that time.
For Hope, the objective was straightforward: improve coverage in areas where her thinning hair had left the scalp more visible while creating a result that would grow naturally with her existing hair. She remembered feeling comfortable during the procedure and, as her transplanted hair grew, noticed a difference not only in her hair but in how she felt about it.
“This does so much for your self-esteem,” Hope said. “You feel better about yourself.”
The before and after photographs on this page show Hope’s individual results. As with any hair restoration procedure, results vary from patient to patient based on factors including the type and extent of hair loss, existing hair, donor density and the number of follicles available for transplantation.
Female Hair Transplant Surgery Today
Hair restoration has evolved considerably since Hope underwent her procedure. Today, Chief Hair Restoration Surgeon Dr. Matthew Lopresti personally performs both FUE and FUT hair transplant surgery at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates. Women experiencing hair loss are evaluated individually because female hair loss can present differently from the patterns commonly seen in men, and not every woman experiencing thinning hair is a candidate for surgery.
For appropriate candidates, FUE or FUT hair transplantation can relocate permanent donor follicles into selected areas where hair has been permanently lost. Other women may be better candidates for non-surgical hair loss treatment depending on the cause and progression of their thinning.
Dr. Lopresti performs hair transplant surgery in Newton, Massachusetts and Warwick, Rhode Island, treating women and men from Greater Boston, Rhode Island and throughout New England.
Hope came to the practice because she was tired of thinking about what happened every time she parted her hair or the wind moved it. Her results tell the rest of the story.
