Retired Founder Dr. Robert T. Leonard

Background and Education

Dr. Robert Leonard is the retired founder of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates and is no longer seeing patients in our practice or performing hair transplant surgery. He founded the practice in 1986 and spent more than 30 years helping establish it as a recognized destination for surgical and non-surgical hair restoration throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New England.

Retirement may have ended Dr. Leonard’s time in the surgery room, but his influence remains part of the practice he built. Chief Hair Restoration Surgeon Dr. Matthew Lopresti trained directly under Dr. Leonard through an intensive two year preceptorship and now personally performs FUE and FUT hair transplant surgery at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates.

Professional Leadership and Affiliations

Throughout his career, Dr. Leonard held leadership roles in several professional medical organizations. He served as President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and held positions on its Bylaws and Ethics Committee and Communications and Public Education Committee.

Dr. Leonard also served as a trustee of the University of New England and the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. His professional credentials included recognition as a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
