Dr. Matthew Lopresti Featured in New York Post Discussing the Future of Hair Restoration

We’re proud to share some exciting national recognition for Leonard Hair Transplant Associates. Our Chief Surgeon, Dr. Matthew Lopresti, was recently featured in the New York Post, sharing his expertise on hair follicle banking and the emerging science of hair cloning. The October 13, 2026 article, written by reporter Rachel Sacks and titled Should You Be ‘Hair Banking’ to Fight Future Baldness?, explores how advances in hair restoration may one day change the way men and women approach hair loss. It’s an exciting subject, and one we’re particularly proud to be discussing on a national stage because HairClone® Hair Follicle Banking is already available to our patients today.

Dr. Lopresti Shares His Expertise on Hair Banking

In the article, Dr. Lopresti helps explain the process of collecting and preserving healthy hair follicles for potential future use. Hair follicle banking involves removing a small number of healthy follicles from the scalp and preserving them through cryopreservation, a specialized freezing process designed for long-term storage. The goal is to preserve these follicles while researchers continue exploring whether their cells could eventually be used in new hair restoration treatments.

Dr. Lopresti describes the collection process in the New York Post, explaining how individual hair units are carefully removed from the scalp under local anesthesia. His comments help readers understand that although the science behind future hair cloning treatments is still developing, the ability to collect and preserve healthy hair follicles is not simply a concept for the future. It’s something patients can choose to do right now.

HairClone® Hair Follicle Banking Is Available Today

At Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, Dr. Lopresti offers HairClone® Hair Follicle Banking to men and women interested in preserving healthy hair follicles for potential future use. During a relatively quick procedure, approximately 120 follicles are collected from the back of the scalp using Follicular Unit Excision (FUE). The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, generally takes 30 to 45 minutes, and typically allows patients to return to their normal activities afterward. The collected follicles are then sent to HairClone® for cryopreservation and storage.

The distinction between hair banking and hair cloning is important. Hair follicle banking is available today, while future cell-based hair restoration treatments remain in development. HairClone® is researching ways to multiply certain cells from preserved follicles with the hope of eventually using them to improve thinning hair. These future treatments are not currently established options for patients, and there is no guarantee they will become available or produce particular results. Banking follicles today simply preserves healthy follicles for possibilities that may exist in the years ahead.

For individuals beginning to notice hair thinning, particularly those with a family history of hair loss, preserving healthy follicles earlier may be worth considering. Dr. Lopresti can help determine whether hair banking makes sense based on a patient’s age, current hair density, pattern of hair loss, and long-term goals. As with any emerging technology, understanding both its potential and its limitations is an important part of making an informed decision.

Proud to Be Recognized by the New York Post

Being featured in a major national publication is always exciting, but this recognition is especially meaningful because it highlights an area of hair restoration that continues to generate growing interest. At Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, we’ve always believed in combining proven treatments with a commitment to understanding where the science of hair restoration is heading. Dr. Lopresti’s participation in this conversation reflects that commitment and our enthusiasm for helping patients make informed decisions about both today’s treatments and tomorrow’s possibilities.

We sincerely thank Rachel Sacks and the New York Post for including Dr. Lopresti in this important discussion and helping bring greater awareness to hair follicle banking. We’re proud to offer HairClone® Hair Follicle Banking to our patients and look forward to following the research and developments that may shape the future of hair restoration.
