Hair Transplants – Trust a Doctor, Not a Physician Assistant

Getting a hair transplant is a big decision. It’s not like grabbing a quick haircut or popping in for some skin treatment. This is a legit surgical procedure. It takes place in a sterile operating room, involves local anesthesia, and requires a ton of planning and skill to do right.

That is why it’s important to know who is doing the work.

These days, you might come across places where the person performing your transplant is not even a doctor. Maybe it’s a physician assistant running the show or a medical assistant aiding the PA with the procedure. Look, they might be great at what they do within their scope, but a hair transplant is not something you want done by someone who did not go through the full grind of medical school, residency, and advanced surgical training.

There is a reason doctors spend over a decade in school and training. In my case, I went to the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, did my internship at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Pennsylvania, completed my residency at Boston Medical Center, and then went through subspecialty training at Harvard Medical School. I also spent two full years learning hair restoration surgery under one of the best in the field, Dr. Robert Leonard.

If you want to see the difference spelled out, the American Academy of Family Physicians has a helpful breakdown of how physician training and responsibilities compare to those of physician assistants. It’s a quick read and makes it clear why, when it comes to surgery, having a physician involved is critical. You can check it out here: AAFP – Physician vs. Physician Assistant.

This is what I do every day. I do not split my time between Botox, fillers, or other aesthetic stuff. My focus is 100 percent hair. It is my passion, it is my lane, and I stick to it.

At Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, I go over your hair loss situation, your health history, what you have tried so far, and whether a transplant is the right move. You are getting experienced care from a team that lives and breathes hair restoration. We are focused on making sure every part of your treatment is handled safely, thoughtfully, and with your best results in mind.

If you are noticing your hair is not what it used to be, or your barber keeps making that awkward joke about your crown thinning out, let’s talk. You have options, and we will figure out what makes the most sense for you. In-person or virtual consultations are always complimentary.
