Today I’m speaking to you not only as a doctor, but as a patient as well! The topic isn’t hair loss, but about some of the effective dermal fillers we offer at LHTA. There’s a lot of marketing buzz about topical skin products, which claim to fight aging and wrinkles. However, they can cost hundreds of dollars and don’t work at the root cause of the problem.

Like many of you, I want to do what I can to look and feel younger and more rejuvenated. About four years ago, I started having BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments—a wonderful product for people with upper face wrinkling. These include the “eleven lines” between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and those horizontal forehead lines, which hold much of our stress. The next generation in dermal fillers is a product called Juvéderm ™ —a smooth gel that’s injected under the skin to lift and fill in creases, such as the nasolabial folds (the line between the nose and the corner of the mouth), the lips and the marionette lines, which gives the appearance of a down-turned smile. The results last 6-9 months and since it’s a hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our skin, there is no required testing beforehand. Juvéderm™ is also the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

With the exception of the lips, Radiesse is used in the same places as Juvéderm™. It’s a thicker product so it can produce more dramatic results—such as recreating fullness in the cheek bones more fulsomely than Juvéderm™.

Sculptra is used to stimulate collagen production over time in the entire face as well as on the upper surface of the hands to create a more youthful look. It does not provide immediate results but can provide a long lasting fullness for up to two years.

I’ve been very happy with my own rejuvenation treatment, and as you can see by the before and after photos, the results are impressive. This is probably the only time you’ve seen me not smiling in photographs!
