Hairloss Can Bother You at Any Age

Sometimes I get a laugh while talking with patients during their hair loss consultations.  A common comment that is made, especially by men, starts with: “I won’t care about losing my hair when I’m…”.  The comical part comes at the completion of this sentence.

Patients with male pattern baldness who are in their late teens or early 20’s invariably finish with,  “when I’m 25”.  The 25-year-old patients state, “when I’m 30” and so on, typically in five-year increments of age.  Others state that their hair loss will not bother them once they get married.

OFFICE, CRANSTON (20110201103328609) 20111220142901347As a veteran hair restoration surgeon with 28 years of experience, I’m here to declare that hair loss bothers people at any age whether they’re married, single, transgender, divorced, or partnered!  We, at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, take pride in customizing our care for men and women with hair loss at any stage of their lives or careers.

Not all treatment options are right for a person at all phases of their lives.  Performing a hair transplant, for example, on a thinning crown in a 24 year old is not the treatment of choice for a person at that age and area of hair loss.

Our patients range from the mid teens all the way up into the mid 90’s.    Our eldest male surgical patient is 91.  This gentleman’s first hair loss consultation was  84 with his lovely wife.  We discussed his situation and I made a recommendation to transplant his crown.  He didn’t have his transplant then; however, he returned six years later, after his wife passed, for a follow up examination.

At 90 years of age, he declared that his “hair loss had been bothering him for the past sixty-five years” and “it was about time he did something about it”! He was so pleased with his surgical hair restoration that he returned the following year for another transplant to make it thicker

We have a number of female surgical patients in their 80’s, as well.  As a woman’s hair thins, it gets more and more difficult to style and to cover their balding scalps.  This often is extremely distressing to them.  If they are appropriate candidates, then hair transplantation is a great option.  Hair restoration surgery provides them their own growing hair to cover the scalps and allowing them to look and to feel more like their old selves again.

So, if your hair loss is bothering you—at any age—know that you are not alone, whether you are 18 or 88! Seek out our vast expertise at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates in treating men and women with proven medical and surgical treatments coupled with a sympathetic and customized approach to each and every one of our patients.
