PFT Commenter Latest Barstool Sports Star to Get Hair Transplant with Dr. Lopresti

PFT Commenter recently had an FUT hair transplant with Dr. Matthew Lopresti at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates in Newton.
Yes, that PFT Commenter. The sunglasses, the long hair and the guy sitting next to Big Cat on Pardon My Take, one of the biggest sports podcasts in the country. And if you’re wondering whether having a hair transplant means PFT is finally getting a sensible haircut, you clearly don’t know PFT.
The long hair was never up for debate. In fact, it was the reason he decided to do something about his hair loss in the first place.
PFT explained it better than anyone else could.
“There is no look worse on planet earth than a guy with long hair who is going bald.”
It’s funny, but there’s also a relatable point underneath it. PFT wasn’t looking to become someone different. He likes his hair, it has become part of the look millions of people recognize from Barstool Sports, and he didn’t want hair loss eventually deciding whether he could continue wearing it that way.
He also had no interest in pretending he didn’t care.
“That’s not the look for me. People might try and shame me about having a hair transplant, but guess what, women use makeup to enhance their look, people use Ozempic to get thinner. I want to keep the long hair.”
For anyone outside the Barstool universe, PFT has spent the past decade becoming one of the company’s most recognizable personalities. He and Dan “Big Cat” Katz launched Pardon My Take in 2016 and turned their irreverent approach to sports, interviews and just about everything else into one of the most successful sports podcasts in the country. PFT also co-hosts Macrodosing with former NFL running back Arian Foster, and he and Big Cat recently added bestselling authors to the résumé with Pardon My Book: Ten Years of the Best (and Worst) in Sports from Pardon My Take, which became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.
At one point during his hair transplant, PFT was sitting in the surgical chair reading his own new book. Becoming a bestselling author and then using your hair transplant to catch up on your own reading feels pretty on brand.

PFT also joins some familiar company at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates. Dave Portnoy and Francis Ellis have also been public about having their hair transplants with Dr. Lopresti. Three very different Barstool personalities, but all three essentially arrived at the same conclusion. Hair loss was bothering them, there was something they could do about it, so they did. And they weren’t afraid to talk about it.
For PFT, Dr. Lopresti performed an FUT hair transplant, and his famous long hair worked in his favor. With FUT, donor tissue containing the follicles used for transplantation is removed from the back of the scalp and the area is closed with sutures. PFT’s existing hair fell right over the donor area, concealing the sutures underneath.
Approximately two weeks later, the sutures were removed. FUT leaves a fine linear scar in the donor area, but PFT’s surrounding long hair covers that as well. The hair he was trying to preserve actually helped conceal the procedure being used to restore it.
And what was PFT like when the microphones were off?

Now comes the part that even PFT can’t talk his way around. Waiting. The early transplanted hairs generally begin appearing around five to six months, with a much more noticeable cosmetic change around nine to twelve months. The hair continues developing and maturing after that, with the more mature result generally evaluated around 16 to 18 months.
PFT is also using finasteride and oral minoxidil under medical supervision as part of his overall treatment plan to help manage his existing native hair and continued thinning. Because the goal isn’t simply to grow the transplanted hair. It’s also to think about the hair he already has and the bigger picture years down the road. Ultimately, PFT’s reason for doing this was remarkably simple. He wasn’t looking for a new identity or a dramatic reinvention.
He likes the long hair. He wants to keep the long hair. So he did something about it. The surgery is done. The long hair stays. Now we get to watch what happens next.
